Is one of your child’s teeth starting to wiggle? Maybe they’ve already lost their first tooth and are excitedly anticipating the arrival of the tooth fairy. Either way, you can make this big milestone even more fun by sharing tooth fairy stories from around the world. Read on to learn a few!

The Tooth Mouse

French-speaking countries don’t have a tooth fairy, they have a tooth mouse! Lovingly referred to as “La Petite Souris” (or “Ratóncito Pérez” in Spain), the story goes that this mythological mouse sneaks into their room at night to retrieve the lost tooth.

Up to the Stars

In countries like Egypt, Libya, and Oman, children are told to throw their lost teeth toward the sun. The hope is that this bright star will send them a stronger tooth in the future.

Raise the Roof

In China, the tooth fairy story is designed to make the new teeth come in quickly. To accomplish this, the lower baby teeth are tossed onto the roof and the upper baby teeth are buried in the ground.

Hammaspeikko, The Tooth Troll

Finnish children are told about Hammaspeikko, the tooth troll that will drill holes in their teeth if they eat too much candy. While this take on the tooth fairy is a bit scarier, it serves an important purpose: helping children fight cavities by implementing good oral hygiene at a young age!

The Power of a Tooth

For Turkish parents, keeping their child’s tooth in a Ziplock bag or keepsake box simply won’t do. Instead, they bury it somewhere significant. For example, if they hope their child grows up to be a doctor, they could place it near a hospital!

Initially, the thought of losing teeth can be overwhelming for your little one. The good news is that the tooth fairy helps take some of that fear away and makes the entire experience a bit more magical. By sharing all of the stories from around the world, your child will really see that they aren’t alone – this is an important milestone for kids everywhere!
